About Workshop

The 21st century has witnessed a rapid change in the field of research on Self-Archiving and Digital Repository with special reference to Open Access Initiative (OAI). Many organisations whether academic or non-academic finds it necessary to build their own digital repositories for the documents and product and services for which they have copy rights/IPRs. Hence, an Institutional Repository (IR) or Digital library is a well-organized digital archive of an institution, with distinctive styles using IT applications that increase visibility and impact of its creativity.

The purpose of the workshop is to develop an expertise by providing a thorough training and handson experience on an open source digital library software-DSpace and Wix Website Builder. This workshop is intended to equip participants with skills for developing their own library website and digital libraries/institutional repositories by means of intensive hands-on training sessions (one to one system) by experts in the field.











Learning Objectives

There will be lectures as well as intensive hands on training sessions.. Thus it will provide both theoretical base and practical skill to the participants to empower them to their organisational benefits wherever they are serving. Thus, the workshop will be intended to:

1. Create Awareness and Promote Use of Library Websites to Enhance the Image of the Library
2. Provide hands-on training to library professionals to design and develop their own library website Using Wix Website Builder
3. Provide background knowledge of the digital library and institutional repository and its related concepts
4. Enhance and build capacity of Library and Information Science professionals in using DSpace Digital Library application
5. Provide hands-on experience in using DSpace software
6. Make the participants able to start a Digital Library/Institution Repository by installing, uploading & retrieving e-contents using DSpace

Target Audience:

The workshop will be of immense benefit to all those involved in developing and maintaining econtent platforms, CMS etc. such as LIS faculty, Library and Information professionals, Information Scientists, Content Developer and Industry Entrepreneurs and others with similar job responsibilities. The workshop is restricted to 30 participants only on first come first server basis.

Pedagogy:

The workshop will be conducted at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai which is well equipped with world class lecture rooms. The workshop comprises of lectures, demonstration and practice on the topics mentioned above. NIFT-Mumbai has excellent computer facilities. The course material and application software will be distributed to the participants on CDs/Memory sticks to enable them to install, work and make use of these software in their respective organisations.

Resource Persons:

The workshop sessions will be conducted by experts from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad as well as in-house experts.

A maximum of 30 participants will be permitted. Admission is on first-come-first-serve basis.

The registration fee is Rs.5000/- per participant (Rupees Five Thousand Only) per person. It covers the cost of workshop kit, software CD, reading materials, tea and working lunch. The registration fee is to be paid by Demand Draft / Cheques drawn from any Nationalized Bank in favour of the “National Institute of Fashion Technology”, payable at Mumbai. Kindly ensure that the Cheques are CTS compliant format.
